Halloween Cards :: EEK

Are you ready for Halloween?!  I have my Halloween projects going on and I feel so ahead of that game, that I have decided to host a pumpkin carving party! Cute idea, right?  Nothing major, just having a few people over to carve pumpkins and eat a few snacks.
Last year I purchased the EK Success pennant punch and I just HAD to use it on my Halloween cards.  I am in love with this punch --- I want to put these little pennants on everything.  The punch was great for the cards and turned out to be the perfect size.

Last year, I didn't have a Halloween wreath .... What is wrong with me?!  However, I do have one in the works for this year.  Since I didn't have a Halloween wreath, I added a simple wooden bat and a simple sign to my existing wreath. ((I made that sign too ... Apparently, I never blogged about it?! Oops!))

FFA Subway Sign

I was more than happy to make this subway art for a friend of mine; considering that FFA was my life in high school.

Scroll down to see some FFA throw back pictures! So funny!

Personalized Subway Signs

A dear friend of mine wanted to make a subway art sign for each of her daughters; however, they are both so outgoing and talented, that she didn’t want to limit the subway art to just one idea - such as {RED SOX} {TEXAS A&M} or {JESUS} …. She wanted something a little more hip, fun and personalized.  I suggested that we put words together that relate with each one of their personalities.  Turned out great, right?!  Such a sweet gift to give to a daughter and an awesome gift to receive from your Mom.

I already have a few new subway signs in the making for Christmas gifts this year! They are going to be fabulous!

The Houston Wreath

Remember the fabulous {BURLAP AND GRAPEVINE WREATH} that I made?! I brought it to Houston, hung it on the front door and it just didn’t look as good.  Ugh.  I am super bummed because I loved that wreath.  The flowers and the door are basically the same color; therefore, there isn’t any contrast.  Also, the storm door really messes up the æsthetics of the front door; I am not liking this storm door at all.  I have plans to remove it and replace the front the door and/or paint it ... that's another day!  I recycled some of the foliage and continued to use burlap base.

And my green thumb is rocking' this year!  Love an urn with a plant in it.
The gnomes are ready for some college football! Gig 'em Ags!
The purple gnome ... yeah, he's for LSU.
Mr. Z went to LSU ... talk about a conflict of interest in our home,
especially now that the Aggies are in the SEC.
The family rivalry is on! Ha!

Texas A&M Burlap Pillows

Ahhh! The Fightin' Texas Aggie football season has officially kicked off!  It's only appropriate that I blog about these fun pillows!

Each year I make (or buy) all of my best friends the same gift for Christmas — well pretty much the same, sometimes there is a little variation.  This past year I decided to try my hand at a freezer paper stencil.  I stenciled on some burlap and made a few throw pillows.  {HERE} is a good tutorial for the freezer paper stencil.  As you probably already know, I am a graduate of {TEXAS A&M} and so are most of my friends. Therefore, it only made sense to use Aggie related words on these cute little pillows. As you an can see from the photos, I have two friends who root for the “other” Texas school.  Haha!

These pillows can be used outside or inside, depending on each persons decor.  Cute, cheap, quick and easy! Pretty inexpensive to send in the mail too.  I made 7 in all.

Two Birds With One Stone :: Cutting Felt Letters

I am the kind of person that likes to  “kill two birds with one stone”  … ALWAYS.  Even right now, I am organizing pictures and bloggin’ while Mr. Z is driving to Louisiana.  I gotta make the trip anyway, so I might as well do something productive during this down time.  If I am just visiting with friends or watching TV, I feel like I can be doing something with my hands; otherwise, I have a tendency to get bored.  Cutting out felt letters is perfect for my busy hands.  It’s totally “mindless”.

I think I want to take up needlepoint for car rides.  Both of our families live on the other side of town, which is approximately 45 minutes one way.  I feel like I could get a lot done in that time.  I could have a "crafting to go" bag!

For this project --- I chose a letter that was big enough to sew around.  I created a simple pattern by printing out letters, cutting them out and then tracing onto the felt.  Then, I placed the felt letters on the fabric and dotted a few drops of hot glue on the felt to hold in place.  I didn’t want to use a million pins and I wanted to make sure the letters stayed exactly where I wanted them- hot glue does the trick!  I used the felt letters to make a cute vertical banner for my aunt and a pillow for my Grandmother.

Felt is cheap and I used fabric that I already had on hand.

Love pom pom fringe!

I really like the color combination of yellow, gray and pink.  So fun!
